Emily Schmidt

Emily Schmidt is an Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award-winning journalist and communications consultant who has told stories while floating in air, wading through floodwaters, and covering the race for President of the United States. Her experience on both sides of the microphone helps executives anticipate tough questions, strengthen stakeholder connections, and lead with messaging that matters.

Emily is based in Chevy Chase, Maryland and has worked as a freelance correspondent for CNN covering news for hundreds of clients. She leads media training, public speaking, and executive communications development for organizations in the US and on five continents. She has worked as a US government global contractor leading media relations training, coached a client for the TED Talk main stage, worked as an adjunct graduate journalism professor for Syracuse University in its Washington program and as an adjunct execMBA strategic communications business professor for the University of Missouri, and written and executed tabletop crisis communication exercises.

Emily grew up on a midwestern farm and graduated with honors from the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism, which is the world’s first Journalism School. She and her family visited 50 states and seven continents, they spoke to the National MENSA Convention, then released the Amazon bestselling family travel book Geo Kids: 50 States on School Breaks in 2023.
